Sunday chili con carne

As it’ll be a busy work week in London next week, I channeled my inner Martha and cooked up a chili con carne to heat up in this cold weather. Cooking stews is simple and yummy…just requires planning as it takes a few hours in the oven😜.


  • 2 yellow onions chopped
  • 3 cloves of garlic
  • 500g of beef cut in cubes
  • 350g of minced meat
  • 400g of crushed tomatoes
  • 1 bottle of dark beer
  • 225ml of coffee
  • 325g of tomatoes purée
  • 450ml of beef broth
  • 3.5 teaspoons of chili powder
  • 1 tablespoon of cumin
  • 1 tablespoon of cacao
  • 1 teaspoon of oregano
  • 1 teaspoon of cayenne pepper
  • 1 teaspoon of coriander
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 200g coy kidney beans and 200g of black beans
  • 1 red chili, fresh parsley and fresh oregano for garnishing

Preparation: here goes, just fry the meat, add all the dry spices and onions and garlic. Then after everything is browned add the rest of the ingredients, except the beans. Put the whole thing in the oven under a lid for 3 hours on 150c. Once the stew is done just add in the beans and ready to serve! Serve with crepe fraoche, cucumber and avocado salad and of course a tortilla or two. Enjoy!!
